Suman Bhattacharya

Suman Bhattacharya was born in April 1977 in a music loving family in Kolkata, India, Suman started receiving his talim (training) in Hindustani Classical Vocal Music (vocal) at a tender age of five years from his aunt Late Smt. Sucheta Bhattacharya and his father Sri Bidyut Bhattacharya of Agra Gharana. Later, from 2001, Suman got rigorous taalim from Pt Kalyan Basu of Patiala Gharana, a gandabadh shahgirdh or disciple of Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan, doen of Patiala Gharana, and Ustad Dabir Khan, the last well-known daughter-side descendent of Miyan Tansen.

 

Suman also is a well known Sitar player, and got taalim from Pt Bimal Chatterjee of Imdadkhani Gharana.

 

An All-India Radio (AIR) artist, recipient of Sangeet Ratnakar from Sarba Bharatiya Sangeet O Sanskriti Parishad, he has performed in many concerts in India and abroad. Since 2004, he has been actively involved in spreading Indian classical music in India, USA, Singapore and Italy. 

In 2015, Suman founded PARAMPARA Society and Music Academy in Singapore. He also founded PARAMPARA Academy of Fine Arts and R.S.B.Creations, organisations promoting fine arts in India.
