Embracing Tradition and Culture

through Music and Dance

Through Guru Sishya Parampara, the tradition of music continues over ages,

as a fine string through numerous musical forms, like flowers of a garland.

to About

    About

Indian Classical Music has a rich heritage that dates back to the Vedic around 5000 BC, where hymns from the Sama Veda were sung as Samagana. Over centuries, this practice has evolved, influenced by various traditions from across the Indian subcontinent. Hindustani music, which diverged from Carnatic music in the 13th century AD, has been shaped by ancient Hindu musical traditions as well as Persian, Arabic, and other cultural sounds. Today, it encompasses a variety of genres, including classical forms like dhrupad and khayal, as well as folk styles such as kajri and lavani, continuing to impact modern Indian music like Film Music and Indian Pop.

At Parampara Academy of Fine Arts, we strive to achieve a number of objectives including research on Indian Classical Music and Dance. We also strive to promote and strengthen the aesthetics and values of Hindustani Classical Music and Dance in Kolkata by organising musical concerts, ensembles, workshops and master-classes. We are a group of like-minded and musically motivated people who want to create awareness of Indian Classical Music and Dance traditions , and of the life history and work examples of its legendary artists. Through this endeavour, we intend to inspire and teach Indian Classical Music and Dance to aspiring musical talents in Kolkata helping them to reach high standards of performance.

PARAMPARA Academy of Fine Arts is a branch of PARAMPARA Society of Singapore.
